Time and Day: 0720 Sunday
The Snapshot: Moderate snow during the day Sunday and early
Monday, ending Monday midday.
Current Observations: 2”
of snow in the past 24 hours brings our season snow total to 201”! Temperatures are in the mid 20’s
across the mountain and winds are light out of the east. The barometer is
falling slowly as the front approaches.
The Science: The low pressure cell that has
been parked offshore spinning moderate bands of snow our way the past few days
is moving inland today. The warm front is beginning to affect the coast and
should cross the crest mid-morning. Winds will be strong in western Washington
from the SW, which will likely not be noticeable at Stevens Pass. After the
trough passes mid-afternoon, winds will shift to westerly and become gusty.
Westerly upper level flow Sunday night and Monday morning will support
orographic showers with a brief period of moderate to heavy snow possible early
Monday morning.
The Long Range: Snow showers end midday Monday,
with clearing skies likely. The next strong system arrives Tuesday morning with
rising freezing levels (3-4,000’) and heavy snow possible. The weather remains
active through next weekend.
