MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 1000 Monday  

The Snapshot:  POWDER DAY!   The snow will diminish today with the next storm poised to bring more heavy snow tomorrow.  This active winter storm cycle will continue through the weekend.

The Science

Current Observations:  It is moderately snowing with 7” of new snow on the ground thus far. The temperature is 290f  at the base and 240f on the upper mountain.  The winds are westerly and gusting +-10mph. The barometer has bumped up a notch to 1016mb’s.  

The Forecast: The snow will begin to diminish to intermittent showers through the day as an upper-level ridge slides in.  The next strong frontal system arrives tomorrow with heavy precipitation and rising freezing levels.   The storm will start out with heavy snow with temperatures influenced by east flow for most of the day.   

A warm front will lift up from the SW late tomorrow night or early Wednesday morning. This will push freezing levels to 4500’ or 5000’.  Mixed rain and snow showers can be anticipated starting after midnight tomorrow. With some luck and east flow love, the snow levels will stay at or below 4000’.   

The Long Range:   The storms keep rolling in right through the weekend.  Tomorrow night/Wednesday’s spike it temperatures should be the warmest of the bunch.

Snow will diminish to showers this afternoon.   Heavy snow kicks in after 4am tomorrow morning with heavy snow through the day.

Freezing level: +-3000

Trend and Timing:   
The freezing levels should hold around 3000’ through the day and into tomorrow morning.

Wind will remain westerly today and shift easterly overnight.
