MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0700 Wednesday

The Snapshot:  Windy this morning with sunshine expected later today.  Light mixed rain and snow arrive tomorrow afternoon with a showery pattern on Friday.  Snow can be expected over the weekend.

The Science

Current Observations:  The clouds have moved out this morning with clear conditions being observed.  The temperature is 19f, the RH is 92% and the barometer is at 1022mb and has been slowly falling.  This morning’s satellite radar has some very light spotty showers to the southwest and clear skies to the north and east.  The easterly winds have been constantly blowing at 10-15mph.

The Forecast:  The clearing is due to the warmer southerly flow that has begun to erode the cold inversion air. Morning fog can still be expected just prior to sunrise, with some sunshine anticipated later today.

A low-pressure trough digging deep to the south will bring warm moist southerly flow to the region starting tomorrow.  The mixed rain/snow game will begin with intermittent showers expected on Friday.  Freezing levels are expected to rise above 5000’ with some east flow effect.

The Long Range:  A cold front arrives on Saturday, lowering freezing levels and producing some snow leading into Sunday.  The rain vs snow game will commence next week as more storms enter the region from the south-west.
