MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  0700 Monday

The Snapshot:  Mostly dry today with snow developing overnight.  Snow showers tomorrow with very active weather persisting through the week. 

The Science

Current Observations: It’s currently cloudy with 2” of fresh new snow to play with today.  The temperature is 29of,  the barometer is at 1009mb and falling.  Satellite radar has the main bulk of moisture heading north with spotty showers in the central mountains.  Weak east flow has developed with light easterly winds blowing.

The Forecast:  Southerly flow aloft and weakening pressure gradients will keep most of the moisture to the north of Stevens Pass today.   A cold front will swing in late tonight for snow showers and lower freezing levels.  Cool unstable NW flow will keep snow showers persistent through the middle of the week.       

The Long Range:  A strong frontal system arrives late Wednesday with high winds, rising and falling freezing levels and heavy precipitation finishing out the week.  It is a bit far out to get wrapped up in the details just yet, so stay tuned.

Trend and Timing:
Mostly dry today with snow developing early tomorrow morning – after 2am.   Light to moderate snow showers can be expected through most of the day tomorrow.

Freezing levels will hover near 4500’ today with east flow helping hold temperatures near freezing.

Winds will stay easterly today and shift westerly and strengthen tonight.
