Time and Day: 0630 Tuesday
The Snapshot:
Snow showers today and tomorrow with
heavy snow finishing out the week. The weekend will be mostly dry with clear
periods.
The Science
Current Observations: It is lightly snowing with 2” of new snow on the
ground. The temperature is 31, the barometer has fallen to 1000mb’s. The
winds have shifted westerly this morning with the radar showing light showers
falling in the mountains.
The Forecast: The shift to westerly flow is an indicator that the forecasted
cold front has passed over. Cooler NW
flow will fill in behind the front with light to moderate snow showers
persisting through the day. The Puget Sound Convergence Zone is expected
to form providing periods of moderate snow possible for the next 24-36hrs.
The Long Range: A potent warm front with lift up from the south
early Thursday morning. This storm has
all the components to be a heavy snow producer with high winds and intense precipitation.
There is a high freezing level (4500 -5K) component to this storm Thursday afternoon;
this could throw some rain in the mix. Models
disagree with the timing and duration of this spike, so we will have to wait and see how that plays out.
The weekend appears to be
dry with clearing under a high pressure ridge.
