Mountain Weather Forecast

Time and Day: 0700 Sunday

The Snapshot: Dry and cold with high clouds today, clearing tonight, further cooling and dry Monday with mostly sunny skies.

The Science

Current Observations:  Temperatures are in the low 20’s across the mountain with light winds out of the west. There was no new snow or precip overnight. The barometer has dropped steadily from 1022 to 1008 millibars in the past 24 hours as the low pressure slides down the coast. Relative humidity at the Brooks station has dropped from 98% at 0700 yesterday, to a low of 14% at 4am this morning. It is currently at 48%, an indicator of the dry northerly air entering our region.

The Forecast: The weak low pressure system mentioned yesterday is indeed moving south off the Washington coast this morning. It is far enough to our west that we will likely only see increased clouds, with precip limited to the Olympic Peninsula and southern Puget Sound. High pressure in the Pacific amplifies this afternoon, directing some ice-cold Canada Dry our way for Monday. Tuesday also looks sunny, with some warming.

The Long Range: A weak front drops in from the north on Tuesday night/Wednesday, which should bring light to moderate snow for Stevens Pass. There is a developing pattern change in store for the end of next week, stay tuned and keep the faith.
