MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0700

The Snapshot: Snow and wind tapering off today.  Cold, dry and sunshine will dominate the weather pattern through at least Wednesday.  Snow and warmer temperatures enter the scene late next week.

The Science

Current Observations: What a storm.  1.45” of water produce 20” of snow over the last 24hrs, 5” of that fell overnight.  Winds hit a high speed of 72mph yesterday and remained fairly consistent through the night.  The temperatures profile is 17 base / 15 ridges.  The barometer dropped to 998mb’s but is now on its way up.

The Forecast:   The low-pressure system that brought us yesterdays intense weather will drift south today.  This will pull in cold, dry arctic air through the Frazer River Gap.  Temperatures are likely to drop to the single digits over the next few days with no precipitation allowed in.  The winds will diminish and shift north then east today.  The sunshine will be the saving grace with clearing underway.

The Long Range:  A weak system will try and make its way through on Thursday for some potential measurable snow heading into the weekend.
