Time and Day: 0730 Monday
The Snapshot:
Very cold and clear today, continued cold with broken clouds tomorrow.
The Science
Storm totals: 3.33”
of SWE (snow-water equivalent) produced 37” of snow since February 14. Winds
peaked at 72 mph on Saturday. Total height of snow in the base area is at 94”,
121” at Brooks.
Current Observations:
It is currently between 3 and
6 degrees Fahrenheit across the ski area. Winds are calm to light. One inch of
snow fell yesterday around midday with no additional snow overnight. The
barometer has come up a few ticks as the low pressure system moves to our
southeast.
The Forecast: A
high amplitude ridge remains parked in the Pacific, thankfully far enough west
that is has allowed the recent storms to drop down over the top of it. The
strong low pressure center that brought the recent weather has sunk to our
south, and we are currently under strong upper level northerly flow with the
coldest airmass of the winter sinking over the Northwest from Canada. The next
few days will feature very cold temperatures, no precipitation, and mostly
sunny skies.
The Long Range: A few light disturbances will move through in northerly flow aloft.
Very light precip and increasing clouds are possible on Wednesday, with
Thursday remaining dry and mostly sunny. There is potential for another potent
system to impact the region next weekend at continued low temperatures.
