MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630 Friday

The Snapshot:  Mixed rain/snow and wind can be expected today and tomorrow, Sunday will be the warmest and wettest day of the weekend.

The Science

Current Observations: The good news is that last night’s storm lost some of its punch.  The anticipated warm front passed east of the crest a few hours ago with the expected warm-up underway.   The 24hr precipitation totals where .66” of water that produced 6” of snow.  The temperatures have bumped to 33degrees with westerly winds gusting along the ridge tops.  The satellite radar has the main bulk of moisture heading into the Intermountain West with light spotty rain showers falling in the Cascades below 5000’.

The Forecast:  Strong westerly flow will bring gusty winds and periods of moderate to heavy precipitation to Stevens Pass today.  The Puget Sound Convergence zone will be active through the next 24hrs.  Freezing levels will bounce between 4500’ and 5500’ through the weekend with a whole array of moisture forms possible.  

The Long Range:  Sunday will be the warmest and wettest day of the bunch with cooler temperatures filtering and on Monday.  Above average temperatures with weak systems move in next week.
