Time and Day: 0630 Wednesday
The Snapshot:
Increasing clouds and light rain can be
expected this afternoon with snow showers tomorrow. Snow showers with
intermittent sun breaks will be the
weekend weather pattern.
The Science
Current Observations: It is mostly
clear this morning with a temperature profile of 28 base / 30 ridges. The barometer
is at 1006mb’s and falling. The winds are light and coming from the east. Spotty showers are starting to show up on the
radar with high cirrus clouds beginning to stream in.
The Forecast: The high cirrus clouds, the falling barometer, and the
developing east flow are all indicators of the approaching low-pressure system
beginning to take effect. As the low-pressure
system slowly tracks south along the coast, it will spin band of moisture into
the mountains. Warm southerly flow will start
out the show with freezing levels rising above 5000’. A cold front will swing in tomorrow morning,
dropping freezing levels and changing the precipitation to snow.
The Long Range: Intermittent snow showers with clear periods
will be the weather pattern through the weekend. Building high pressure and warm air are
expected to arrive early next week for more early spring weather.
