Time and Day: 0700 Sunday
The Snapshot:
Light snow today and tomorrow with sun breaks and seasonal temperatures.
The Science
Current Observations:
A light dusting of snow
overnight, 26 degrees in the base area and 22 at the upper weather stations.
Skies are partly cloudy and winds are light from the west. Barometric pressure
is relatively high and basically flat for the last 12 hours, representing our
stable position between two low pressure systems.
The Forecast: A
low pressure center in Canada will continue to spin light bands of moisture in
weak WNW upper level flow towards Washington. A weak shortwave of low pressure
transits the forecast area Sunday night for elevated chances of snow showers. Amounts
look light at any rate. Temperatures remain cool with daytime warming becoming pronounced
this time of year. Lingering snow showers continue Monday with clearing skies
as weak high pressure builds.
The Long Range: Tuesday should be dry and mostly sunny under a brief high pressure
ridge. A cutoff low that is currently parked off the California coast will
begin to move inland on Wednesday, bringing higher freezing levels and moisture
on Thursday. Currently this is looking like a snow event for Stevens Pass, with
most of the action happening Thursday and Thursday night.
24hr values daily 4am to 4am.
