Mountain Weather Forecast

Time and Day: 0630 Monday

The Snapshot: Light snow and partly cloudy today, clearing and warming Tuesday. You may not have noticed, but we've had 19" of snow in the past 6 days.

The Science

Current Observations:  Gotta love low density: .35” of water brought 6 inches of snow in the past 24 hours, with 4” of that overnight. Temperatures are 26 in the base area and 20 on the upper mountain this morning. Winds peaked at 32 from the west overnight, but are currently in the teens. Barometric pressure has risen to 1020 millibars.

The Forecast:  Weak northwest flow will bring very light snow showers throughout today. Skies should remain mostly cloudy, but with sun breaks possible this afternoon. On Tuesday a cute little high pressure ridge will build into the forecast area for mostly sunny skies and warming temperatures. Wednesday will also feel a bit spring-like, with another calm, sunny day in store.

The Long Range: Active weather returns Wednesday night as a warm front approaches from the south. Freezing levels will likely initially rise to 4500-5000’, but should fall on Thursday with additional moisture. Snow looks likely Thursday and Friday.
