The Forecast:  Today and tomorrow will remain dry and mostly clear.  Early morning temperatures will struggle to drop below freezing with daytime temperatures peaking in the upper 30’s or even hitting 40.   High clouds begin to move in late tomorrow night with mixed rain and snow beginning Wednesday morning.

Long Range: A progressive weather pattern begins on Wednesday with several pulses of moisture tracking towards the PNW.   Freezing levels will start out around 4500’ and slowly fall as the week progresses.

Specific details on snow accumulation and the temperature profiles are still in question.  So for now, light mixed rain and snow begins early Wednesday with snow increasing Thursday and Friday.

The Science:  The high pressure (+-1020mbs) will weaken and slowly drift east over the next 24-36hrs.  Warm southerly flow aloft will keep freezing levels at or above 6500’.   An approaching low pressure trough will tighten the isobars over the coastal waters and thus create a strong easterly/offshore flow gradient.  East flow will persist and even strengthen throughout the week.

The first thin band of moisture, out ahead of the main cold front, arrives early Wednesday morning with cooler unstable NW flow filling in behind the front. Storms forming within the NW jet stream will track into the PNW through the weekend.
