Mountain Weather Forecast

Stevens Pass Mountain Weather Forecast
Day and Time: Saturday 0645

Current Observations:
24hr Precipitation:   .2” SWE / 2.5” snow
Pass temperature:  19 degrees
Pass level winds:  Calm
Barometer:  Steady at 1004
Sky: Clear
Radar: Isolated showers on the west side

The Forecast: Light snow today, cooling with diminishing snow showers overnight. Drying, clearing, and cool on Sunday.

The Science: A low pressure trough parked over Washington this morning will allow upper level north/northwesterly flow with some moisture to rotate through the state. A strong high pressure ridge out in the Pacific will create the pressure gradients to drive offshore (easterly) flow. This will keep the temperatures and freezing levels low. Snow showers look likely in the mountains during the day and should taper off overnight as flow turns more northerly and the trough shifts a bit east. The high pressure leans in over the coast on Sunday and Monday for drying and clearing skies, but with continued cold temps.

Long Range:  The next system is still slated to arrive Tuesday/Wednesday. Currently moderate snow amounts at low temperatures are expected, with lowland snow again a possibility. Thursday and Friday are trending dry with another system possibly arriving Saturday.
