Mountain Weather Forecast

Stevens Pass Mountain Weather Forecast
Day and Time: Monday 0740

There is a widespread low-land snow event occurring in the Puget Sound this morning. Accumulation generally look light but traffic will almost certainly be affected.

Current Observations:
24hr Precipitation:   .1” SWE / 2” snow mid mtn / 1” snow base area
Pass temperature:   20 base /   16 mid mtn
Pass level winds: Light from the east
Barometer:  Steady at 995
Sky: Light snow
Radar: Widespread light snow across the state

The Forecast: Cold and partly cloudy Monday with light snow flurries. Partial clearing Tuesday, with little to no precipitation and continued cold temperatures.

Long Range:  High pressure moves inland Tuesday afternoon and brings sunny skies and cold temperatures for the middle of the week. Another low pressure system from the north appears on Thursday, details to come but another lowland snow event (and maybe more significant mountain snow) looks possible.

The Science: The low pressure system that has ushered in this cold air mass will continue to track south during the day. It opens up into a trough for Tuesday and shifts inland, with high pressure building off the coast. This will allow for northerly upper level flow, bringing clearing skies and continued cold temperatures.
