Stevens Pass
Mountain Weather Forecast
Day and Time: Wednesday 0700
Current Observations:
24hr Precipitation: 0
Temperature profile: 39 base, 42 ridge
Pass level winds: Gusty, east
Barometer: 1017mb’s and falling
Sky: clear
Radar: mostly dry with the leading edge of the approaching cloud deck
beginning to push into Long Beach WA.
The Forecast: More sun, warmth and wind today. High clouds move in tomorrow with light mixed
rain and snow possible late Friday night.
Long
Range: Light mixed rain and snow showers with sun breaks can
be expected for the weekend.
The Science:
Dry east flow will continue to push
through the Passes for a few more days. The slow dropping barometer is the
indicator that the high pressure ridge is starting to weaken. This will eventually open the door for a cold
front to lift up through the region on Friday. Freezing levels are expected to drop to +-4000’
late Friday night with light moisture in tow.
The snow: Due to the low relative humidity's, the snow pack is setting up under good evaporation in the
upper layer. The snow in the shade is starting
to turn chalky and rather good.
Forecast confidence: Good in short term with the
timing of the moisture and the freezing levels still in question for the
weekend.
Values from 4am today through
4am tomorrow.
