MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Stevens Pass Mountain Weather Forecast
Thursday, 12/25/19, 0730

Merry Christmas everyone. May our new year be filled with snow.

Current Observations:
24hr Precipitation:      0
Temperature profile:   19 base,  20 ridge
Pass level winds:          light easterly
Barometer:                  1008mb’s slowly trending up.
Sky:                      morning fog with passing mid-level clouds
Radar:       The Cascades Mountains are virtually dry with scattered mixed rain and snow showers popping up over western Washington and the Olympics.

The Forecast:  Mostly dry with clearing today.  Increasing clouds tomorrow with a chance of snow on Friday

Long Range. A few inches of snow is expected on Friday with the Saturday trending dry.  Another system arrives on Sunday with more snow likely.  With some luck, we could have an additional 6-10” of snow on the ground heading into final week of 2019.

The Science: The high pressure ridge over eastern Washington is confining the incoming moisture to western Washington.  The ridge will strengthen a bit today which will allow for some clearing and sunbreaks.

The ridge will flatten tomorrow and drift east. This will open the door for westerly flow to drive in a disturbance early Friday morning.  Freezing levels will be in favor of snow through this event.

Confidence: Good.
