3/7/2010 Weather

Short Term: The high-pressure will break down today allowing a series of systems to move in. Light snow tonight and dry tomorrow.

Long Term: It will be an active week of winterish weather as a NW flow pattern drives a series of frontal systems through the PNW.

TRENDS AND TIMING
Precipitation: The moisture will show up sometime this afternoon. Rain will be possible at first but it should change to snow this evening. Temporary ridging will build tomorrow morning allowing just light snow showers to fall.

Freezing levels: A strong cold front will move through tonight dropping freezing levels to 2000’ by 4am. Freezing levels could touch sea level on Monday. Surface temps will be high again today but will drop quickly tomorrow morning. Cool temps will stick around until Tuesday.

Winds: NW flow with periods of gusty frontal winds will be the pattern for the next few days. The weather models don’t show a huge wind event but with this drastic change in temperatures and flow, I wouldn’t rule out some high winds. JDM
