3/8/2011 Weather

24HR FORECAST starting at NOON today

Water - .5 Snow - 4-7
Freezing levels -  3000' rising to 4000'
Winds  5-10 W  gusty

General Discussion: The rest of the day will be relatively dry and windy with another front fast approaching.

Long-term: Several systems are gearing up to move into the PNW for the next 6-10 days. The mountains will be likely receiving significant snow throughout this storm cycle.

TRENDS AND TIMING
Precipitation: There will be a lull in the snow this afternoon and evening as an upper level ridge quickly passes over. The next front is expected to enter the mountains after midnight with snow once again intensifying through the early morning hours. The temperatures will be right on the edge to receive a mixed rain snow in the base area.

Freezing levels: Freezing levels will bounce between 3000’ and 4000’ for the next 2 days. The warmest point will be early tomorrow morning. Cool air will filter in towards the end of the week.

Winds: Winds will shift westerly and become strong at times this afternoon. Gust to 30+ will be possible on the upper ridges. East flow will develop tomorrow with the approach of yet another system. The winds will be something to contend with during this entire storm cycle.
