STEVENS PASS MOUNTAIN WEATHER

3/12/2011 Weather

24HR FORECAST starting at NOON today

Water - .25-.5  Snow 3-5
Freezing levels - 3000' rising to 4500'
Winds - 5-15 ESE

General Discussion: A strong cold front approaching the coast will bring periods of wet snow to the mountains through the weekend.

Long-term: Pacific storms will continue to pound the PNW through most of next week. High pressure building off the coast of California will be something to watch in the next 6-10 days. If this continues on its current path, it will bring a significant pattern change sometime early next week.
TRENDS AND TIMING
Precipitation: Radar shows the first wave of moisture entering the mountains this morning. Snow will taper to showers this afternoon with another relatively quiet night ahead. The next push of moisture will hit the mountains after 4am tomorrow with moderate wet snow falling throughout the day.

Freezing levels: Freezing levels will rise to 4500’ today and remain near or just above Pass level through tomorrow. East flow should hold surface temperatures at or just below freezing.

Winds: East flow at the surface will continue through tomorrow. Winds aloft will shift westerly at times but remain dominantly ESE.
