What happened to last nights storm?

I mentioned in this mornings meeting that the approaching cold front stalled over the olympic mountains last night and then occluded.   There were some questions on what occluded meant.

You may recall the "tripple point" that I posted prior to this storm hitting land fall. Once the storm hit land it stalled over Puget Sound and never really made it to the Cascades.   The Olympics got the moisture - 5.3".    While the storm was stalled overnight, warm air convection was able to invade from the SW.

An occluded front is formed during the process of cyclogenesis when a cold front overtakes a warm front. When this occurs, the warm air is separated (occluded). The point where the warm front and the occluded front meet is called the triple point.[1]
