MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

0830 Monday:

The Snapshot:  Partly cloudy, cold and dry through Wednesday.  There will be a chance of light rain or snow starting on Thursday.

The Science:  High-pressure over the intermountain west (Idaho) will block any incoming moisture from making it to the Cascades for the first half of the week.   Warmer air will ease in during the next few days with southwest flow developing by the end of the week.

4-7day Long Range:  Weak disturbances begin to move through the region starting on Thursday.  These are tracking up from the south so freezing levels will be at or above 4000’.  The rain/snow game will likely be played through the weekend.   These systems are not packing much energy, so significant snow is not likely for the next 5-7 days.

24hr precipitation ending at 4am tomorrow:

Water = 0   Snow = 0

Trend and Timing:
No precipitation until Thursday.

24hr temperature ending at 4am tomorrow:
Low: 10   High: 22
Freezing level: 500’   2500’

Freezing Level Trends and Timing
Freezing levels will slowly rise during the next few days.  Freezing levels expected to reach +4000’ by the end of the week.  Cold easterly flow will hold surface temperatures well below freezing through Tuesday.

24hr Winds (mph) ending at 4am tomorrow:
Base:  0-5 E
Ridge Top:  5-10 NNW

Trend and Timing:
 Light east flow at the surface with northwest flow aloft will continue through Wednesday.
