MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

0630 Friday:

The Snapshot:  I guess Stevens was lucky to avoid the wicked weather that pounded the coast yesterday.  The resort received just .23” of water with relatively little wind.   Light remnant showers will continue in the mountains today with cooler and drier weather developing over the weekend.  Watch for icy conditions as all this water begins to freeze.

The Science:  Pressure gradients have begun to weaken this morning; this will bring an end to the major precipitation.  Dry and clear weather starts tonight as high-pressure builds over the region.   The mountains will also cool as freezing levels along the crest drop a thousand feet or so.

4-7day Long Range:  The high-pressure ridge will block or split any moisture trying to make its way to the mountain for most of the upcoming week.  A stronger front arrives late next week which will be our next best chance for significant snow.

Precipitation ending at 4am:

Today’s 24hr Water = .10  Snow = Trace

Tomorrow’s 24hr Water= 0  Snow = 0

Trend and Timing:
Light showers dry up today with dry conditions prevailing through the first half of next week.

24hr temperature ending at 4am tomorrow:
Low: 34   High: 26
Freezing level: 4500’   3500’

Freezing Level Trends and Timing
Freezing levels will fall below 4000’ today.   Sub-freezing temperatures will continue through the weekend.

24hr Winds (mph) ending at 4am tomorrow:
Base:  0-5 W
Ridge Top: 5-10 W

Trend and Timing:
Westerly flow will weaken today and shift easterly tomorrow.  East flow will strengthen through the weekend.
