MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

0800 Tuesday:

The Snapshot:   Rain.

The Science:   A strong SW fetch of moisture, aimed at the PNW, will bring heavy rain below 7000’ through tomorrow night.  A low-pressure system tracking up the coast on Thursday, will keep freezing levels above 4500’ with more precipitation.  Things begin to dry and cool on Friday as high-pressure builds over the region.  Thus, the weekend will likely be partly cloudy and dry.

4-7day Long Range:   A pattern change of cooler WNW flow begins early next week.  Models disagree on what this will bring so stay tuned.

Today’s 24hr Water = .75-1   Snow = 0

Tomorrow’s 24hr Water= 1  Snow = 0 

Trend and Timing:
Bands of rain will continue to move through the mountains through at least Thursday morning.  Storm totals by Thursday could exceed 3" of rain.

Freezing Level Trends and Timing
Freezing level will rise to 7000’ during the next 24hrs.   Warm surface temperatures will continue until late Thursday or even Friday.

Trend and Timing:
Winds will be out of the south with strong gusty ridge top winds possible.
