MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

0730 Wednesday:

The Snapshot:  Snow shower with sun breaks today and tomorrow, more snow possible Friday night.

The Science:  Well, .5” of water (+6” of snow) fell onto the giant sponge with only about 3” of accumulation.  Snow showers will continue this morning as The Puget Sound Convergence Zone slowly fizzles out.  The atmosphere will remain unstable under cool NW flow so snow showers with periods of clearing will continue for the next 24-36hrs.

Long Range: The next weather feature of interest is low-pressure system developing just off of the BC coast.  The storm currently expected to track south along the PNW coast but to remain offshore.  Bands of moisture will spin into the Cascades but will not be a big producer; +-2-5” of snow for the start of the weekend.   A drying and warming trend starts the new week.

Precipitation ending at 4am:

Today’s 24hr Water = .25   Snow = 1-3

Tomorrow’s 24hr Water = .10   Snow = trace

Trend and Timing:
Intermittent snow showers likely through the next 24-36hrs.

24hr temperature ending at 4am tomorrow:
Low:34    High: 34
Freezing level: +-3000.'

Trends and Timing:
Diurnal temperature (melt-freeze) fluctuations will continue with freezing levels hovering around +-3000’ for the remainder of the week.

24hr Winds (mph) ending at 4am tomorrow:
Base: 0-5 WNW
Ridge Top:  0-10 WNW

Trend and Timing:
Light WNW flow will continue until Friday.
