MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630 Friday

The Snapshot: 3” unofficial of snow overnight.  Windy with intermittent snow shower today, a brief dry period tonight with snow tomorrow night.

The Science:   Unstable westerly flow will produce gusty winds and snow showers today.  Some weak upper-level ridging will create a brief dry period tonight.  East flow re-develops and clouds thicken tomorrow as the next system approaches.

The next strong storm front begins to affect the region tomorrow afternoon with snow and mixed rain falling through Sunday.  At the moment, freezing levels look to be favorable (-+4000) for mostly snow through early Sunday morning.  A period of mixed rain will be possible Sunday, but it should be short-lived.  

Long Range:  Next week will start out with snow changing to rain Monday – Wednesday.   Freezing levels could rise to 7000’ on Tuesday/ Wednesday with rain.  Cooler NW flow with snow is beginning to show up on the long range models late next week.

Snow shower today, mostly dry tonight.  Light snow begins tomorrow and intensifies through the night.

Freezing levels will hover at or just below 4000’ through Saturday.
