MOUNTAINW WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0630 Wednesday

The Snapshot:  Light snow showers today, periods of rain and snow will continue through the weekend.

The Science:  The main front is well past the mountains and heading east.  Last night’s system produced around 4” of snow, with another inch possible with the left over instability.  The next front will arrive late tonight with snow changing to mixed rain and snow and eventually light rain tomorrow below 4500’.

Strong southerly flow associated with tonight warm front, will erode the cold air trapped in the eastern basin (no more east flow). This will raise freezing level to +-5000’ tomorrow.   A cold front will then follow with moderate snow showers and strong westerly flow.   Storm totals to come later today.

Long Range:  The games start all over on Saturday with east flow snow changing to mixed rain and snow.   The storms keep rolling in with freezing levels bouncing between 4000’ and 5000’ through the middle of next week.

Precipitation ending at 4 am:
Today’s 24hr Water = .25-.5   Snow =  2-4

Tomorrow’s 24hr Water = .5   Snow =  2-4

Trend and Timing:
Light snow showers changing to steady snow after sunset tonight.  Snow changing to mixed rain and snow early tomorrow morning.

24hr temperature ending at 4 am tomorrow:
Low: 22   High: 32
Freezing level: +-4000’

Trends and Timing:
Surface temperatures will remain below freezing due to the east flow influence through early tomorrow morning.  Freezing levels briefly rise to 4500’ or even 5000’ tomorrow.

24hr Winds (mph) ending at 4 am tomorrow:
Base: 5-10 E
Ridge Top:  5-10 ESE

Trend and Timing:
Upper ridge winds will shift southerly by tomorrow.
