WEATHER UPDATE

Weather update:  A few good changes to this morning’s forecast

Time and Day:  1000 Tuesday

The Snapshot:  Rain today changing to snow tomorrow, a short dry period tomorrow night, snow (lots) Thursday through Sunday. 

The Science:  Rain will continue through most of the day.  A little shot of cold air descending in from the north will bring a short period of snow above 4500’ tonight.  Freezing levels will rise back up after midnight with rain continuing into the early morning hours.

A cold front is expected after sunrise tomorrow that will lower freezing levels to +-4000’ and change the rain to snow before it tapers off later in the day.   Another push of moisture arrives on Thursday morning with snow likely and then again on Friday. 

Long Range:  Big snow on the way for the weekend?  A good looking progressive winter storm is beginning to take shape for the weekend.  Snow totals from Friday - Sunday 4 pm could exceed several feet.    


Precipitation ending at 4 am:
Today’s 24hr Water = 1-3   Snow = 2-5  

Tomorrow’s 24hr Water = .75    Snow = 3-5

Trend and Timing:
Rain today, a short period of snow tonight changing back to rain.  Rain changes to snow tomorrow morning.


24hr temperature ending at 4 am tomorrow: 
Low: 32  High: 38
Freezing level: 7000’   4000.'

Trends and Timing:
Freezing levels will briefly fall to +-4500’ tonight and the rise back up around midnight.   Freezing levels then fall to 4000’ around daybreak tomorrow.

 
24hr Winds (mph) ending at 4 am tomorrow:
Base: 5-10 W Gusty
Ridge Top:  10-20 W gusty

Trend and Timing:
Models still show high ridge top winds through tomorrow.  A short period of the east flow will occur tonight but shift SW after midnight.   Tomorrow’s cold front will also be packing some strong westerly winds.
