MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0700  Friday

The Snapshot: Cooling today, moderate rain changing to snow tonight, moderate snow Saturday changing back to rain by Sunday and Monday.

The Science:  The edge of the cold front is just offshore this morning. Temperatures will cool when it crosses east of the mountains later today.  A low-pressure trough will move in from behind the front with strengthening westerly flow; this will bring lower temperature and snow for Saturday.

After the trough crosses Washington tomorrow, the upper-level flow will become SW oriented, bringing rising freezing levels and heavy precipitation (rain) Saturday night and Sunday.

The Long Range:  SW flow with heavy rain will continue Sunday and Monday, with a drying trend Tuesday.

Precipitation Ending at 4am:

Today 24hr water = .5-.75  Snow = 2-4

Tomorrow’s 24hr water = 1-1.5 snow = 8-10

Trend and Timing:
Rain changing to snow overnight, moderate snow Saturday, heaviest in the afternoon/evening, changing back to rain after midnight.

24hr temperature ending at 4 am tomorrow: 

Low:  30   High: 35
Freezing level: 6,000’- 3,000.'

Trend and Timing:   
Freezing levels will fall below pass level by this afternoon, and further by Saturday morning.

Ridge Top: 10-20 WSW

Trend and Timing:
Light winds today, increasing after the frontal passage midday today.
