MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  0630  Tuesday

The Snapshot: Lights snow showers today with moderate to heavy snow again tonight. Intermittent snow showers continue through the end of the week.    

The Science

Current Observations: +- 10” of snow fell overnight, the temperature is 31f, the Rh = 93%,  the barometer is 1013mb and rising, the winds are out of the west and gusting between 10-15mph.  The snow has pretty much stopped with just some light showers showing up on the radar.   

A weak ridge of high pressure between systems has created a lull in the action this morning with some partial clearing.  The next frontal system is expected to reach the mountains later today with moderate to heavy snow tonight and tomorrow morning.   The atmosphere will remain unstable allowing isolated snow showers to continue through Friday.   

The Long Range:  Saturday will be mostly dry with more precipitation and warmer temperatures arriving on Sunday.

Today 24hr water: .75+ snow: 6-10”
Tomorrow’s 24hr water: .5  snow: 4-6”

Trend and Timing:
The snow will ramp back up late tonight with the heaviest period between 2 am and 7 am tomorrow morning.  Snow diminished to showers through the day tomorrow.

Low: 28    High: 34
Freezing level: 4500’ – 3500’

Trend and Timing:   
Freezing levels will stay put around 4500’ through early tomorrow morning.  Freezing levels are expected to drop to 3500’ tomorrow and then 3000’ on Thursday.

Ridge Top: 5-10 SSE

Trend and Timing:
Winds are diminishing. East flow at Pass level with SE flow aloft will be the winds routine through tomorrow.
