MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  0630 Wednesday

The Snapshot:  Snow tapering to showers this afternoon. Snow shower persists through the end of the week.  Saturday will be dry with some clear periods.  Warmer and wet weather arrives on Sunday/Monday.    

The Science

Current Observations:  2” of snow has hit the ground thus far this morning, the temperature is 31f, the Rh is 100%, the barometer has dropped to 1004mb’s, and the winds are a bit gusty and out of the ESE. 

The approaching cold front is still to the west and is pushing a swath of heavy moisture into the mountains.  The snow will diminish and the temperature will drop a few degrees once the front heads east of the crest later today. 

NW flow with cooler unstable air will keep snow showers moving through the mountains tomorrow and Friday.   

The Long Range:   Saturday will be mostly dry with a warm SW fetch of moisture entering the region on Sunday.  Next week is now looking warm with rain showers likely.

Tomorrow’s 24hr water: .25  snow: 1-3

Trend and Timing:
Snow will diminish around noon today with light snow showers persisting through tomorrow.

Trend and Timing:   
Freezing levels will drop to or just below 4000’ this afternoon.
