MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  0630 Friday

The Snapshot:  Windy with persistent snow showers today, dry tomorrow, heavy snow on Sunday.  Warming next week.

The Science

Current Observations: This morning’s radar has some nice snow showers in the convergence zone, telemetry is reading 7” of new snow with the temperature at 290f , the barometer has bummed up to 1006mb, the winds are blowing 5-10mph and out of the west.

A weak convergence zone with cool unstable WNW flow will keep light to moderate snow falling into tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow, a high pressure ridge, moving into the inland NW (NE Oregon/Idaho), will begin to push the moisture to the north for a temporary break in the precipitation.

SUNDAY.  Sunday is looking very interesting with a potential heavy snow event.  A strong warm front, with a good punch of moisture, will enter the Cascade Mountains early Sunday morning.  A cold front, hot on its heels, will swing in with good cool air mixing.   At the moment freezing levels look to peak around 4500’ then fall to 3500’ late Sunday.  Models have yet to align with specifics details, so stay tuned.
