Mountain Weather Forecast

Time and Day:  0715 Saturday

The Snapshot:   Light rain and mostly cloudy today, clearing and warmer on Sunday.

Current Observations:  2” of very wet snow on the upper mountain this morning, with no accumulation in the base area. It is lightly raining to the ridgetops now. Temperatures are 33-35 degrees across the mountain, RH is 100% and the barometer is slowly rising.

The Science:   A weak frontal passage last night and this morning has brought continued mixed precipitation. The radar to our west is clearing up rapidly this morning and the bulk of the moisture should be done. Light rain showers in the wake of the front should end soon. High pressure builds this afternoon and Sunday for very mild, dry, and warm weather. Light east flow may create a bit of an inversion at the Pass on Sunday.

The Long Range: A weak front in southerly flow will approach Washington on Monday, with freezing levels a little higher than we’d like, somewhere around 5-6,000’. It’s not a particularly strong feature and heavy precip is not expected. The associated trough moves through on Tuesday with slightly lowering snow levels.
