MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Day and Time:  Wednesday 8:00am

The Forecast:   Rain increasing today with a short break in the precipitation tomorrow.  Rain returns tomorrow night and lingers into Friday.   Freezing levels will bounce between 5000’ and 6500’.   Gusty ridge top winds will diminish late tonight.

Long Range: The weekend will trend dry, clear and cooler.  Long range models are starting to disagree on next week’s fate. Some have the blocking ridge persisting into late next week while others have a system with potential snow moving in on Tuesday; something to keep an eye on as those details get sorted out.

The Science:   Easterly winds shifted westerly around midnight last night. This was the indicator of the passage of the warm front.  This mornings satellite image has an approaching cold front, currently over the Puget Sound region, moving east. The freezing levels will fall to around 5000’ and westerly winds will strengthen once the front moves east of the mountains.  Bands of moisture will also fill in behind the front.

A ridge of high pressure will begin to strengthen on Friday and shift north over the weekend.
