STEVENS PASS MOUNTAIN WEATHER

2/3/2011 Weather

24HR SNAP SHOT starting at NOON today

Water - .5-.75 Snow - 1-3
Freezing Levels - rising to +6500'
Winds 10-20 gust to 40mph

General Discussion: The high pressure that we have enjoyed for the last few days is weakening and drifting south. This will open the door for a series of fronts to make their way through the mountains. A vigorous warm front will move through today bringing snow then rain. Watch out for a freezing rain event east of the crest.

Long-term: A cold front will follow tomorrow dropping freezing levels and thus producing snow over the weekend.

TRENDS AND TIMING
Precipitation: An interesting mix of snow and rain, influenced by inverted temperatures will begin today. The rain will likely freeze to the cold surfaces (freezing rain) before the surface warms up. Convergence flow could enhance orographics which will likely increase precipitation amounts. Rain will change to showers tomorrow afternoon.

Freezing levels: Freezing levels will rise to 6500’ or higher by 7pm tonight. Freezing levels will remain above pass level through the night. Freezing levels will then fall tomorrow as the cold front approaches.

Winds: Strong westerly flow will accompany the front today. Sustain 40mph winds with higher gust will be possible.
