STEVENS PASS MOUNTAIN WEATHER

2/11/2011 Weather

24HR FORECAST starting at NOON today

Water -.25  Snow 1-3
Freezing levels -  5000'  falling to 4000'
Winds -  0-10 WSW

General Discussion: An active weather pattern will begin tonight as a series of fronts get set to move into the PNW. Freezing levels will again be near pass level – so mixed rain and snow will be possible at times.

Long-term: Cool NW flow is expected enter the scene late Saturday night which should allow for good snow in the mountains for Sunday. The long range outlook continues to show an active winter weather pattern through next week.

TRENDS AND TIMING
Precipitation: A wave of moisture, preceding the main frontal system, will enter the mountains late tonight or early tomorrow morning. There will be a break during the day tomorrow before the main front arrives later in the day. Mixed rain and snow will eventually turn to snow through the weekend.

Freezing levels: We will have warm surface temperatures and high freezing levels today. Freezing levels will once again be on the cusp as they bounce between 4000’ and 5000’ through the weekend. Freezing levels are expected to fall as cooler air enters the scene on Sunday. At this point, Sunday looks like the best chance of significant snow.

Winds: Winds won’t be much of a factor until tomorrow afternoon’s front pushes through. I will wait until tomorrows model run to get a better handle on the wind potential for tomorrow night.
