STEVENS PASS MOUNTAIN WEATHER

2/12/2011 Weather

24HR FORECAST starting at NOON today

Water - .75 -1  Snow 8-12
Freezing Levels - 4500'  dropping to 3000'
Winds 10-20+  W

General Discussion: As advertised, the next frontal system will move into the PNW today. This storm will be more on the snowy side as cooler air fills in from the NW. Wind will also play a part tonight as the front pass over the mountains.

Long-term: Active weather will continue into the coming week.

TRENDS AND TIMING
Precipitation: The bulk of the precipitation will hit the mountains later today and continue through the night. Snow will taper off during the day tomorrow. A Puget Sound Convergence Zone is expected to enhance snow fall in the Hwy 2 corridor north. (i.e. Stevens Pass to Mnt Baker)

Freezing levels: Freezing levels will fall to 3000’ tonight. Freezing levels are expected bounce back up to near pass level tomorrow night and Monday.

Winds: Will be a factor as strong westerly flow accompanies these fronts. Sustained winds of 20mph with ridge top winds reaching +40mph will be possible tonight.
