MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 0900 Thursday

The Snapshot:  Question of the day. Why does weather have to be a threat?”   Cloudy today with the treat of rain and snow tonight, occasional snow and rain showers tomorrow.  Not much snow accumulation expected.

 The Science:  A weakening frontal system will reach the mountains later today.  Snow levels will be around 4500’ with mixed snow and rain probable in the base area.  The moisture band breaks apart tomorrow as pressure gradients aloft begin to rise.  Intermittent showers of snow and rain at times can be expected through the weekend.  A short frontal wave embedded in the westerly flow could bring some snow late Saturday night.    

 4-7day Long Range:  Strong high pressure builds over the region on Sunday.  This will provide warm and dry weather for the first half of next week.  Freezing levels could exceed 10,000’ with surface temperatures reaching +50f on Tuesday and Wednesday.   


Precipitation:
16hr Water by 4am tomorrow  = .25     Snow = 1-3
24hr water by noon tomorrow = .25+  Snow = 2-3

Trend and Timing:
A mixed bag of moisture is expected to begin after 4pm today.  The precipitation will turn to scattered showers through the night.  Not much snow accumulation is expected.

Low: 28   High: 38
Freezing level: 4500’   4000’

Trends and Timing
Freezing levels will stick around 4500’ through the night and low slightly tomorrow.
