MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day:  0900 Saturday

The Snapshot:  This very complex weather system will continue to bring a mixed bag of snow and rain to Stevens Pass into next week.   

The Science:  A weak cold front that is slowly passing over the mountains this morning, has temporarily lowered the freezing levels to around 4000’.  An elongated SW oriented low-pressure system developing behind the front will push freezing levels back up and begin to break up the flow of moisture later today.  Cold air arrives tomorrow morning with a short period of moderate snow changing to snow showers.  The weak Puget Sound Convergence zone is expected to develop tomorrow that will help intensify snow showers.      

Long Range: The show starts all over on Monday with snow changing to rain and then back to snow on Tuesday.  A cooler and drier weather pattern will end the week.

Precipitation ending at 4 am:

Today’s 24hr Water = .5   Snow = 1-3 

Tomorrow’s 24hr Water = .75  Snow = 5-8

Trend and Timing:
Mixed snow and rain changing to rain showers this afternoon.  Moderate snow tomorrow morning changing to intermittent snow showers tomorrow afternoon. 


24hr temperature ending at 4 am tomorrow: 
Low: 24   High: 40
Freezing levels: 6000’ - 2500.'

Trends and Timing:
Freezing levels will spike up to near 6000’ today and then quickly descend to 3000’ late tonight.   Surface temperatures will fall to lower 20’s after 4 am tomorrow morning.

Ridge Top:  5-15 S gusty

Trend and Timing:
Winds shift southerly today.  Ridge top winds will remain active through the weekend.
