MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST

Time and Day: 1100 Monday

The Snapshot:  Light snow showers with sun breaks today and tomorrow.   Snow with a chance of mixed rain will be possible starting Wednesday.

The Science

Current Observations: This morning’s radar has clear skies to the west with light scattered snow showers lurking around the mountains.  There is 10” of fresh snow on the ground, it is lightly snowing with the clouds beginning to thin, the temperature is 220 f, the Rh = 93%, the barometer is 1017mb and rising, the winds are 2mph out of the east.

A high pressure ridge has begun to form over the inland NW.   This will dry and stabilize the atmosphere for the next few days. The Stevens Pass cloud cap will likely persist today with some sun breaks possible this afternoon.  Good radiant release will allow temperatures to cool off into the low 20’s or high teens again tonight.  Tomorrow will similar as today; cold with morning fog burning off through the day.

The Long Range:  The next system arrives on Wednesday with warmer temperatures and precipitation.  The jury is still out on how much moisture and whether or not the east flow will hold temperatures low enough for snow.  A split flow pattern is also a possibility which could decrease precipitation totals.
