MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST


Stevens Pass Mountain Weather Forecast

The Snapshot:  Breezy with increasing rain today and temperatures in the upper 30’s.  A slow drying trend begins tomorrow with cooler temperatures.  

Current Observations:
Precipitation: Light rain.  1.27” of rain fell over the previous 24hrs.

Winds: 5-15 W gusty
Barometer: 1020mb’s and falling
Sky: Mixed clouds
Radar: Light scattered showers in the mountains with a band of precipitation moving through the San Juan Islands.

The Forecast:  The precipitation and temperatures will increase today with heavy rain expected overnight.   The heavy rain diminishes and shifts to mixed snow/rain showers tomorrow afternoon.   

Long Range:  Light mixed snow and rain showers will start the week with a drying trend developing on Wednesday.  No significant snow accumulation is expected for the next 5-7 days.    
  
The Science:  The last storm of the previous series will move through the region today.  This is a triple point storm (warm, cold, occluded) that is tracking toward the southern BC coastal region. The leading warm front with an associate gradient wave will drag south along the Cascade Range tonight for one last blast of wind and rain.

The following cold front will swing through around mid-day tomorrow dropping temperatures and cutting off the moisture. 

Long range models have a high pressure system developing off of the California coast over the next 72hrs.   If this continues as expected, dry weather with seasonally above average temperatures will settle in mid to late next week.
