The Christmas Crust (157-165cm down) is no longer a "crust". It has metamorphed into large frozen poly crystal and 4F hardness. This layer could be a problem in late spring/ early summer. The hard rain crust (Clay's Laminate) is still acting as a good bridge to anything below it for now.

March 6, 2010

7:30 Start Time for March 7th, 2010

Dug a pit with Dan V. on Cowboy Hiking Shot.   Found that the Christmas Crust is not solid anymore, (at least in this pit, that is).   The crust has metamorphed enough to be 4F large polycrystals.  Could be an interesting layer in late spring.  Got a couple of hard compressions above and below Clay's laminate.  Pit will be posted tomorrow.

SPOT WEATHER FORECAST

3/1/2010 Weather

Short term: Welcome March. The sun will try and burn the clouds off for a dry and pleasant day. Some weak systems will begin to pass through tomorrow.

Long-term: After this dry and warm period tomorrow, the general trend will be cooler with weak systems passing through. No huge weather events on the long range radar.

Precipitation: Light precipitation will show up after noon tomorrow and will most likely be rain with these warm temps. There won’t be much help from the east as warm air moves in there too.

Freezing levels: 5500’-6500’. High freezing levels and longer days will allow surface temps to climb to the 40’s today and tomorrow. High cloud cover will prevent night time temps from dipping too much below the freezing mark.

Winds: East/Southeast flow will continue to move through the mountain passes for the next few days. JDM
